Get your flu vaccine before winter!

October is around the corner, which means the flu is coming back soon and thankfully the vaccine is already here. Is it too late to get one? What are the advantages of getting a Flu shot before winter hits?

The CDC recommends that everyone over the age of six months get vaccinated, but if you're worried it's too late to do so fear not! Even though flu season is right around the corner, getting a vaccine now can still offer health benefits. For those who have already been sick with influenza or have had their immunity compromised by another illness this year, receiving your vaccination at any point during flu season will help protect against future infections throughout winter and reduce severity of symptoms should you contract influenza later on in the flu season.

Getting vaccinated early can protect you from catching influenza during your most vulnerable times, such as when your immune system is weakened by being sick or stressed. Flu shots also offer protection for people who have chronic health conditions or are pregnant.

Flu vaccination is important because:
  • more people are likely to get flu this winter as fewer people will have built up natural immunity to it during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • if you get flu and COVID-19 at the same time, research shows you're more likely to be seriously ill
  • getting vaccinated against flu and COVID-19 will provide protection for you and those around you for both these serious illnesses

Most adults can have the flu vaccine, but you should avoid it if you have had a serious allergic reaction to a flu vaccine in the past.

You may be at risk of an allergic reaction to the flu vaccine injection if you have an egg allergy.
This is because some flu vaccines are made using eggs.

If you're ill with a high temperature, it's best to wait until you're better before having the flu vaccine.

If you've had COVID-19, it's safe to have the flu vaccine. It will still be effective at helping to prevent flu.

We are excited to announce we are offering Flu vaccinations starting September 15th!

Book an appointment  below with one of our GPs or Paediatricians.
A consultation is mandatory to establish if you can have a vaccine.

We're offering the flu vaccine with a limited supply as we need to make sure that those who really need it get priority.
