Osteopathy
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a holistic therapeutic approach where Health, considered as the natural state of the human body, takes precedence over illness. Dr. Andrew Taylor-Still, father of Osteopathy, was one of the first to understand that the balance between the various structures of the body is fundamental to the concept of Health and that a functioning body at optimal capacity is less likely to be affected by Disease.
The fields of application of Osteopathy are varied and it can help with a variety of conditions such as sciatica, cruralgia, lumbago, neck and pelvic pain, tendonitis, neuralgia, mechanical consequences of trauma such as false movements and traffic accidents, muscle tension and joint stiffness, minor sports and soft tissue injuries as well as articular, disc and degenerative pathologies of osteoarthritis type. It can also be useful in the treatment of poor posture and work related disorders such as repetitive strain injuries or persistent headaches and be beneficial to women during their pregnancy.
Cranial osteopathy is particularly recommended for the treatment of children, the elderly and anyone who responds better to a milder treatment and in cases of chronic neck and back pain as well as stress and tension related problems. As for visceral techniques, they encourage the normal mobility, tone and motion of the organs and their connective tissues, potentially improving their function.
